Happy Valentine's Day Herbs
By Lucinda Jenkins LPNHC of Glenbrook Farm Herbs & Such

Are you running on low voltage? Are you tired, strung out from work all day, screaming kids and then there stands your spouse with that "look" that was cute 10 years ago and now you are just indifferent to the activity they have just suggested?

First before any herbal sparking can do any good, you do have to get rest, plenty of fluids, reduce stress, avoid caffeine and sugars and get routine exercise.

After that is said, herbs can really help to increase libido or sexual desire and sexual function. The herbs listed below are not just for women but greatly assist and enhance a man's function also.

Damiana
Damiana is known as the "women's sexual tonic herb". It increases the oxygen flow to the genital area thus giving excellent support to genital area which increases the sexual pleasure. It has a testosterone like effect on the nerves and organs. There has not been any known reports of Damiana toxicity. Try a dropper of Damiana extract under your tongue or a cup of tea, one hour or two before your encounters

Fo-Ti
Fo-Ti is a plant native to China and the root is the part of the plant used. The size and the age of the root determine its strength and array of healing properties. The Latin name is Polygonum multiflorum.

This herb is used to help conditions such as atherosclerosis, constipation, fatigue, high cholesterol, and immune system support. Eastern Herbalists use Fo-Ti to maintain youthful vigor, increase energy, tone the kidneys and liver and purify the blood. It is credited with the ability to maintain one's hair color and preserve youthfulness.

Research is showing that Fo-Ti indeed does have anti-inflammatory properties, vasodilatory activity, sedative qualities, and reduces hypertension. Current research is also showing that not only does it help lower cholesterol but helps prevent fats from lining the arterial walls. It is a natural source of lecithin.

It is also known as a sexual tonic and will alleviate vaginal dryness, increase libido in women and because of the vasodilatory abilities, it is very helpful for men. It's not quite Viagra but close. (You have to take Fo-Ti for awhile to expect "results")
No wonder Fo-Ti has been a favorite "tonic" in China for centuries.
Ho Shou Wu actually means "man with black hair".....

Gotu Kola (Centella asiatica)
This plant grows in a widely in tropical, swampy areas, including parts of India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Madagascar, and South Africa. It also grows in Eastern Europe. The roots and leaves are both used medicinally.

It is used to help different problems like chronic venous insufficiency, varicose veins, mental function, minor burns, sclerodema, skin ulcers, and wound healing, and also used to increase the libido in women.

Gotu kola has been important in the healing arts of central Asia for centuries. It was purported in Sri Lanka to prolong life. Numerous skin diseases, ranging from poorly healing wounds to leprosy, have been treated with gotu kola. Gotu kola is also used in boosting cognitive function and for helping a variety of systemic illnesses, such as high blood pressure, rheumatism, fever, and nervous disorders. Some of its common uses in Ayurvedic medicine include heart disease, water retention, hoarseness, bronchitis, and coughs in children and as a poultice for many skin conditions.
Saponins known as asiaticoside, madecassoside, and madasiatic acid are the primary active constituents. These saponins beneficially affect collagen (the material that makes up connective tissue), for example, it retards production of aggressive scar tissue.

Maca
Maca is plant that produces a radish like tubular root and comes from Peru. It has been cultivated there for 2,000 years. Its orgin remains a mystery to science. Studies show that Maca increases the testosterone levels and increases energy and sexual function. The studies were so impressive that rumor has it the positive results will be published in the April 2000 issue of Urology Medical Journal. Studies have shown that when greater amounts of maca were taken sexual function continued to improve. No toxic level has been noted so far but let's wait for the reports to be published.

Ginkgo and Sarsaparilla
Ginkgo increases the peripheral blood flow and increases circulation to the brain. Sarsaparilla regulates hormones and helps to carry the lively action of ginkgo to the genital area which enhances sensation. This works for both men and women.

Muira Puama root
According to a study done by Wanyeburg in Paris France, of the 262 men suffering from erectile disfunction 62% reported to have obtained a benefit from using Muria Puama root. Maybe this is why the natives of South American named this root "potency wood". Do not take this tincture before grocery shopping or going to the library. Take it at the appropriate time....Final warning!

The two most important things to increase libido does not come in drugs or herbs, it comes in the form of a smile and a kind word...

Happy Valentines Day!!
